The timeline of the Gemidan Group
1988
Gemidan A/S was founded with the goal of increasing the recycling of garden and park waste into compost in Denmark.
1994 – 1998:
Expands activities to include waste packaging and international packaging projects. Undertakes its first outsourcing project involving the production and sale of alternative support fuel.
2005:
Expands to Operational Solutions at Composting Sites
Begins the production and sale of compost for the agricultural sector. Gemidan achieves ISO 14001 environmental certification.
2009:
The company grows from 2 to 35 employees.
2012:
Acquires Complementary Companies to Strengthen Focus on Sustainable Solutions
Gemidan acquires SWS – Special Waste System (handling of hazardous waste) and Komtek Miljø. With this acquisition, Gemidan takes over the pilot project ECOGI and begins the journey from idea to reality, developing a flexible solution for the treatment of food and organic waste through its own pulping technology.
2014:
Gemidan acquires Tulstrup Kompost to handle local garden waste in Zealand and starts the RDF (Refuse Derived Fuel) waste import project.
2016:
Gemidan establishes the subsidiary Gemidan Ecogi A/S to further develop and sell the Ecogi technology and sets up Gemidan Ltd to manage operations in the UK.
2017-2018:
2019:
Gemidan sets up a local office in Germany and achieves ISCC certification for the biopulp produced in its Ecogi facilities. The company also opens its own Ecogi facility in Frederikshavn, becoming the owner and operator of two Ecogi facilities in Denmark.
2020:
Gemidan sells its stake in Geminor to sharpen its focus on in-house solutions. The company establishes an Ecogi pre-treatment facility in Egedal Municipality near Ølstykke, with the facility opening in January 2021. As a result, Gemidan now owns and operates three pre-treatment facilities in Denmark.
2021:
Gemidan A/S merges its treatment solutions to ensure the best organizational framework, while Gemidan Ecogi A/S remains an independent entity, concentrating on the sales and continued development of pre-treatment plants.
2022-2023
Gemidan has established an Ecogi pre-treatment plant in Odense Municipality, which opened in January 2024. With this addition, Gemidan now owns and operates four pre-treatment plants across Denmark.
2024:
Gemidan has taken over the operations and staff at the composting site in Frederikssund and has started the establishment of another Ecogi pre-treatment plant in Viborg.
